Money of Russia: rubles

The Russian rouble (RUB code ISO 4217) (in Russian рубль) is the monetary unit of the Russian Federation since January 1, 1998.

He replaced former Russian ruble (RUR code ISO 4217) at the rate of RUB 1 = RUR 1000, following the period of inflation in the early 1990.

The ruble is divided into 100 kopecks.

Apart from Russia, the Russian rouble is currently legal tender in the separatist republics of Abkhazia, North Ossetia (both being formally part of Georgia), and Transdniestria (being formally part of Moldova). In these republics there is a strong sense of belonging to Russia.
